About this demo

I work with AI generative art, and I have been exploring how it mixes with other technologies. This parallax effect demonstration came out of that.

The artwork is cut into layers and stacked inside a card. Tilting the card slides each layer by an amount set by its depth, which is what reads as parallax, and a foil pass adds the reflections that move across the surface.

About the artwork

The image is drawn in an LCD render style, combined with card effects — holo reflections that shift across the surface as the card moves.

The characters are the Akatsuki, from Naruto. I watched the series recently and liked it very much, so it was what I reached for when I wanted something to build this demonstration on.

Where this is going

I want to keep exploring this. The plan is to grow this site into an augmented version of my work, because there are things about a piece that social media still cannot represent. A feed flattens everything into one still frame, at one size, held at one angle. A page can hand the piece back its depth, its motion and its reflections, and let you move it around yourself.

More experiments will land here as I make them.

Viewing it

On a phone the card follows the accelerometer, so tilting the handset tilts the artwork; iOS asks permission before a web page may read motion, which is what the button above is for. Dragging the card works anywhere, and on a desktop it follows the pointer. Auto hands the card back its own motion.
